JORDAN AND SPENCER HIGH GRADUATES
AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS
Service, Education, Progress. Epsilon Eta Zeta Chapter of Columbus, Georgia annually awards scholarships to deserving youth in our community. To be eligible for these scholarship applicants must have a GPA of 2.75, be accepted to a college, university or technical school, complete a scholarship application and compose an essay.
Our scholarship recipients for 2009-2010 are Ms. Briana Horton and J'iara Silmorea Jackson of Columbus, Georgia. Briana is the daughter of Debra Horton and Antone Benson. This young lady graduated from Spencer High School with a GPA of 3.5 and ranked eleven in her class of 180. Briana was involved in numerous activities at school. While attending Spencer High Briana was a member of the Student Government Association, Senior Class President, Homecoming Court-Miss Greenwave, captain of the basketball team, and editor of the yearbook. Briana will major in Physical Therapy at Alabama State University.
J'iara Jackson is the daughter of Alicia Jackson Buckner of Columbus. J'iara is a graduate of Jordan Vocational High with a GPA of 3.1 and a multitude of accomplishments. As a student she participated in school activities and organizations to include the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Jordan's Jobs for Georgia Graduates Association, Jordan's Announcing Association. Academic awards included A & B Honor Roll, Social Studies Student Award and Georgia High School Graduation Test First Time Passing Test Takers Award, Perfect Attendance Award for four years.
J'iara participated in many church and community activities. She volunteers with Girls, Inc., Big Brother Big Sister and at her church, St. Paul C.M.E. The time spent visiting at the hospital has influenced her decision to pursue a degree in nursing. J'iara believes that a nurse is a mentor, caregiver and most importantly, a great support person. In her essay J'iara states "After I graduate from college, I will be a licensed nurse and perform the skills that are required of me. Most importantly, I'll be doing what I love the most. . .helping others one at a time."
We are proud to award these talented young ladies with $500.00 book scholarships. Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
